In our last blog post, we explored the Asheville Bed and Breakfast Association, which is a collection of wonderful B&Bs and Inns in Asheville and the nearby towns. This time, we want to dive deeper into what it’s really like to stay at a bed and breakfast, like our very own Andon-Reid. We hope this helps potential guests see beyond old stereotypes about what a “bed and breakfast” experience is all about today!
B&Bs often get a bad rap for various reasons, and we totally get that! While we can’t speak for every B&B out there—since each one has its own charm and personality—we’re excited to share what makes staying with us special. We also want to help you discover similar experiences wherever your travels take you. We absolutely love welcoming first-time B&B guests! We know it takes a bit of research to step outside the usual lodging choices and try something new, and we’re here to make that experience as enjoyable as possible. So come join us and break free from those travel myths—you might just love it!
Clearing Up Misconceptions About Bed and Breakfasts
As the proud owners of the Andon-Reid, we understand the mixed feelings people sometimes have about the term “bed and breakfast.” We know that some travelers might picture small, cozy rooms with old-fashioned furniture, shared bathrooms, and maybe a bit too much antique decor. It even brings to mind that classic Seinfeld episode where Jerry is wary of visiting a B&B in Vermont because of the “separate faucets for hot and cold water!” With that in mind, we want to assure you that we aim to blend the charming history of our lovely 1902 home with all the modern comforts you’d expect. Every one of our rooms boasts its own ensuite bathroom—many even feature relaxing jetted tubs! Our furniture is stylish and well-made, and we’ve chosen beautiful, contemporary linens and decorations to create a warm atmosphere. Plus, you’ll be happy to know that we maintain strong water pressure and plentiful hot water for your enjoyment. Our dedicated housekeeping team is always on hand, ensuring everything is sparkling clean and welcoming. While we’ve chosen to keep TVs out of most of our rooms (except for the Garden Suite) as part of our Inn’s tradition, we do have Smart TVs available for any room upon request, complete with complimentary YouTubeTV for everyone to enjoy.
Why You’ll Love Staying at a B&B
Before we dive into what makes the Andon-Reid special—from booking your stay to checking out—let’s explore some of the wonderful reasons to choose a B&B for your next getaway!
– Support Small, Local Businesses: When you stay at a B&B, you’re often supporting a small, locally owned business where the owners live right on the property. This means you’ll get a personal touch and attentive service from people who truly care about making your stay unforgettable. At the Andon-Reid, every email, call, or text is answered by us, the owners, so you know we’re here for you every step of the way!
– Feel Right at Home: B&Bs are often charming, spacious homes nestled in historic neighborhoods. With our deep local knowledge, we can help you plan the perfect trip, pointing you to the best restaurants, hiking spots, attractions, and more. You’ll feel like a local without having to research everything on your own!
– More Than Just a Room: At the Andon-Reid, our luxurious, cozy rooms are just the beginning! You’ll have access to a variety of inviting common areas, including our bright guest lounge, wraparound porch, patio, lawn, and game room. It’s like having the whole house to yourself! Plus, you’ll get breakfast included, saving you from having to plan another meal!
– Meet New Friends or Enjoy Your Privacy: One of the best parts about being innkeepers is witnessing guests make new connections over breakfast. If you love mingling, you’ll fit right in! But if you’re looking for a little peace and quiet, we completely understand—our B&B offers both vibrant social opportunities and calm spaces to retreat to. Check out more about our breakfast experience below and get ready for a delightful stay!
Guest Lounge Refreshments and Amenities:
Every afternoon, we fill our cozy guest lounge with a delightful assortment of snacks and refreshments just for you. The sweetest surprise? Brenda bakes a yummy treat each day—everything from cookies to magic bars to brownies—making it a special highlight! Enjoy these goodies with a steaming cup of coffee or tea, or perhaps a chilled glass of wine. You’ll also find a selection of soft drinks like Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Cheerwine, and Waynesville Soda Jerks, plus plenty of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate options. And if you need ice or want to heat something up, our ice machine and microwave are at your service. While we don’t sell or provide any beer, wine, or alcohol on the premises, feel free to bring your own and enjoy it wherever you like on the property. We’ve got wine openers and glasses ready for you!
Just off the kitchen, you’ll find a handy half bathroom near the guest lounge, making it easy if you’d rather not head back to your room.
In your room, we’ve thought of everything to make your stay comfortable: hair dryers, irons and ironing boards, refrigerators, Keurig coffee/tea machines, comfy robes and slippers, makeup towels and mirrors, wine glasses, coffee cups, white noise machines, charging stations, and plenty of luggage racks and hangers so you can settle in with ease.
And don’t miss out on our fabulous game room! Located in the basement, it’s packed with TVs, a pool table, board games, darts, shuffleboard, exercise equipment, and plenty of comfy seating. Many guests tell us they wish they had discovered the game room sooner!
Breakfast
Breakfast at the Inn is truly something special! We love creating unique yet classic dishes that offer a perfect blend of sweet and savory each day. We serve breakfast at 8:30 AM, but you can sip on fresh-brewed coffee in our dining room starting at 7:30 AM. If you need an earlier or later breakfast, just let us know in advance—we’re happy to accommodate! Our coffee bar is stocked with all the essentials: cream, sugar, syrups, and more. And for tea lovers, we’ve got you covered with a variety of options at the lounge; just let us know if you’d like us to prepare some hot water for you before breakfast.
When it comes to breakfast seating, we have four tables between the guest lounge and dining room—three four-top tables and one two-top table. We usually seat guests together, which is a great way to meet new friends! But if you’re looking for a bit more privacy, just mention it when you check in or any time during your stay, and we’ll do our best to set you up at a separate table, depending on availability.
Our breakfast features two delicious courses: a lighter appetizer to start, followed by a heartier main course that includes a main dish, a side, and fresh fruit. We also provide refreshing water and our special house-made juice cocktail, lovingly crafted by Brenda each day.
